rel-0.17beta1 documentation and help

Well there isn't much doumentation out on this beta, unless you are building the release and not using the ones made available for download.
A few things that are important:
1. The network boot settings are different most notably the ramdisk size and the removal of a bunch of options like time server, remote type, etc
Code: Select all
excerpt from pxelinux.cfg/default:
APPEND initrd=rootfs-minimyth-0.17.0.0beta1.c3 root=/dev/ram0 ro ramdisk_blocksize=4096 ramdisk=64000
2. The TFTP transfers have changed the system will look for them in $TFTPROOT/conf/`hostname` or $TFTPROOT/conf (usually /tftpboot/conf). The files it is looking for are localtime, lircd.conf, lircrc, minimyth.conf
Optional files: xorg.conf, xinitrc, loadmods.script, minimyth.script
3. LIRCRC format has changed, it doesn't use irxevent so you need to rewrite the file to match your remote (an example here http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/lircrc-RS.txt
4. You need to configure minimyth.conf, this file is well documented, but needs some examples for the serial remotes.
Code: Select all
excerpt from minimyth.conf:
This is as far as I have gotten, as I am rewriting all my lirc stuff to work. Hope this helps someone else.

This makes sense to go here too:
There are two kernel files to choose from:
The .c3 is for c3 processors (I think up to M10000 Ezra), the c3-2 is for nehmiah and better processors (I think M10000 Nehmiah and better).
You would point to the appropriate kernel (was BZImage) and rootFS in the pxelinux.cfg/default file.

I think it would be best to set up a utility like Faq-o-Matic
. So everybody who wants to contribute documentation is able to.
Or you can setup a a Wiki

Or it can be a Wiki setup where one can add/edit information. It can be in the lines of http://knoppmythwiki.homelinux.org/

Depending on how you update your system it may be advantageous to rename your frontend's hostname or delete its settings from your "settings" table.
I noticed that some settings and functions did not work for me (like the OSD wouldn't display anymore and the channel changing wouldn't work).
Everything worked well when it was reconfigured from scratch.

another small tip:
If you want your frontend to power off after leaving mythfrontend change the shutdown command 'halt' to 'poweroff' in the mythtv settings.

Can you please tell me where I can get a copy of the xorg.conf? I'd like to adjust so it will work with my HDTV (via transcoder).

You no longer need to change the halt command (bug 47). Change #185 fixes that.

I put a copy of the xorg.conf here:

Thanks for the conf file (and all of the hard work)!!

Thanks Eduardo! I am slowly piecing together how to get minimyth up and running again. I am happy to see so much progress has been made, but I have totally be left behind.
