How to change the compile flags in a package?

Post by Spulit »

Hi,

How can I change the flags for compilation (CFLAGS) for a specific package? For example, I would want to compile VLC with -O3 and other parameters. How do I change the GAR Makefile?

Thanks

After the 'include ../../../gar.mk" line, you can modify any of the environment variables. If you look at the package devel/glibc, then you will see and example removed -ffast-math from CFLAGS, makes sure that CFLAGS is using -O3 (first removing any existing -O option) and forces PARALLELMFLAGS to -j1. You may need to change CXXFLAGS as well.
